Suyi Davies Okungbowa: David Mogo, Godhunter
April 22, 2020
The short review below will get longer
Set in Lagos, which is rapidly becoming my favourite setting for speculative fiction, the story follows David Mogo as he comes to terms with his demi-god status, his high god mother and defending his immediate family and Lagosians from the predations of an exiled god looking for home.
I love that the story is so rich and layered. I don't know a lot about the Oshun or the individual Orisha but I've been reading more Nigerian based speculative fiction in the last couple of years and so I'm getting familiar enough that when Eshu appeared - I was like Dude! Things are gonna get super chaotic now.
Some of the conversation between characters is in Naijá (Nigerian creole) but it is easy to follow in context.
